"I woke at 7.30 to snow. Snow sugaring the trees,
snow three inches deep. The birds are busy feeding
in the peanut tree, the only tree to bear fruit in
February: pendulous cylinders of peanuts. Blackbird,
robin, sparrow, coal tit, greenfinch, chaffinch, blue tit,
sparrow, great tit (more occasional), long-tailed tits,
great spotted woodpecker, pheasant (cock) circling beneath,
pecking up the peanut crumbs from the upper table.
Mallards sliding under the hedges on the far side of the
moat." [Roger Deakin, Notes from Walnut Tree Farm]
